Public Transit in Illinois is in Limbo, after the House was unable to fill the 770 Million dollar gap for transit in Chicago.

Last Night, the house failed to fill the nearly billion dollar gap for transit in Chicago. You can expect major cuts to service

What Happened?

Last Night, Illinois lawmakers finished their spring session without allocating any money for Chicago transit next year. In their 55.2 billion dollar budget, the Illinois legislature didn’t leave any money for the CTA. The CTA will also run out of its federal Covid relief funds in 2026.

How will this effect you?

If the shortfall isn’t addressed, we could be seeing up to 40% reduction in service across Metra, Pace, and the CTA, according to WGN.

What can we do about it?

It is still possible that lawmakers could head back to Springfield for a special summer session. There will likely be a lot of pressure from Chicagoans to improve its transit

Other Ways to Support:

An organization called Better Streets Chicago created a pledge to help with the fight for better transit.

Our transit needs to be saved. Contact your representatives. Call the governor's office and demand an extra session this summer.
